Jonathan M. Hyman

Jon Hyman is Professor of Law and Alfred C. Clapp Public Interest Scholar at Rutgers Law School – Newark, where he has served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Administrative Director of the Constitutional Litigation Clinic, and as co-director of the Rutgers Certificate Program in Conflict Management. His academic specialties include alternative dispute resolution (mediation, arbitration, negotiation, dispute system design), litigation, and contracts. He co-authored a seminal study on Managing Conflict in an Urban Health Care Setting.

He has written extensively on dispute settlement and mediation, with a particular focus on the role of lawyers, and has been a member of the national editorial board of the Clinical Law Review. He has served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Committee on Complementary Dispute Resolution and on the Court’s Advisory Committee on Mediator Standards.

Professor Hyman is a practicing arbitrator and mediator. He was lead counsel in several large employment discrimination class actions. In 2007 he received the Prof. James B. Boskey Practitioner of the Year Award from the Dispute Resolution Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Professor Hyman is a graduate of Harvard College and Yale Law School.
