Robert J. Mallin, DDS, CFP

Bob Mallin’s extraordinary career includes decades of dental practice, consulting on the business of dentistry, as a certified financial planner, and in commercial real estate development.

Dr. Mallin has practiced dentistry for over 40 years during which time he was one of the founders of the New Jersey Academy of General Dentistry, a past president of that organization, a past president of the Middlesex County (NJ) Dental Society and a past president of the New Jersey Dental Research Group. He studied at the prestigious Pankey Institute in Florida and was a graduate of that Institute. Dr. Mallin has lectured at various international, national, state and local programs.

While in practice, Dr. Mallin was on the adjunct faculty of Pittsburg Dental School for a number of years and authored many articles that appeared in the JADA, JNJDA, Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry and Dental Economics.

Upon graduation from Dental School, he entered the US Navy and served at Patuxent River, MD (NATC) where he had the good fortune to know many of the first astronauts. One of them, Alan Sheppard, became his patient so some of his dentistry was the first into space.

While at Dental School, Dr. Mallin earned dentistry’s highest honor, selected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon as well as being selected into the Honorary Oral Surgery Society and the Honorary Internal Medicine Society.

Prior to his becoming a Dentist, he studied Organic Chemistry at Temple University and, while working at the Metal and Thermit Corporation, was instrumental in developing Stannous Flouride, which is one of the great gifts dentistry has given to mankind.

In 1987, he earned his Certified Financial Planning designation and has been engaged in financial planning since that time with his own firm. He also owns a dental practice brokerage firm, specializing in the evaluation and buying and selling of dental practices as well as offering advisory services to dentists.

Dr. Mallin syndicated a consortium to buy a major shopping center of which he and his partner are still the principal owners. In addition, he built two professional buildings, bought and sold raw land, built two homes and was instrumental in helping his children set up very successful businesses. For his son he financed and consulted on the formation of Village Office Supply that has grown to be one of the largest independent dealers in the United States with hundreds of employees and four locations in the East. For his daughter he opened a Gold Crown Hallmark store, specializing in fine, personalized stationery.

He has been a member of the Edison Township Board of Education, a Director at the Metuchen YMCA and was selected for the Perth Amboy High School Hall of Fame.

His avocations include collecting duck decoys, especially those of Barnegat Bay in New Jersey He has an extensive collection that had been loaned to and shown at the Decoy Museum in Havre de Grace, MD. He also has an interest in British Victorian Watercolors.
