Alexander A. Cocoziello, III

Alex Cocoziello’s career encompasses over fifteen years of diverse work experiences ranging from detailed business process analysis to strategic business development, and from basic engineering to advanced scientific research. His broad array of professional competencies includes corporate partnering, strategic planning, civil engineering, consultative selling, project management, business process reengineering (BPR), software requirements management, and mediation. He has helped organizations in the life sciences, software technology, educational, and construction industries accelerate their growth and achieve more effective business outcomes.

Between 2002 and 2007, Cocoziello progressed through several high level management positions at Dendrite International (now Cegedim-Dendrite), a $450 million global enterprise focused on software and services for the pharmaceutical industry in the areas of sales effectiveness, marketing performance, regulatory compliance, and clinical optimization. Cocoziello served as Manager, Strategic Planning & Business Development; Director, Pharmacy Data Consortium; and, most recently, as Director of Business Development. In this latter role, he was responsible for sourcing, assessing, negotiating, coordinating, and closing strategic partnership deals; managing relationships with key strategic partners; identifying/recommending acquisition candidates and participating in due diligence; and preparing business development briefings for the senior executive team. Cocoziello significantly expanded the company’s portfolio of product offerings by negotiating, closing and serving as key liaison for over a dozen strategic partnerships. Most prominently, he co-led negotiations under a critical timeline to close a $13 million dollar strategic data licensing deal to replace nine existing agreements whose renewal terms had become untenable.

From 1997 through 2002 Cocoziello held several positions with Software Associates International (SAI), a $17 million software development firm focused on the pharmaceutical industry in the areas of drug sample compliance, sales force data management and customer data management. Hired as a business analyst, Cocoziello quickly advanced to establish and lead SAI’s first dedicated software consulting practice. There he led a team of seven business consultants and software engineers; proposed, sold, and managed the implementation of innovative, process-related consulting engagements; and designed and implemented standard methodologies, operating procedures and work templates. Cocoziello generated over $2 million in new revenues for the company up until it was acquired by Dendrite in 2002.

In 1996 Cocoziello and an associate formed Sage Consulting Co. Ltd., a five-person management consulting firm based in Bangkok, Thailand, that specialized in business process reengineering and the use of computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools to assist clients in achieving their corporate strategies. Sage’s clients included a leading Thai commercial bank and a large Thai consumer products manufacturer/distributor.

Earlier in Thailand, Cocoziello served as an Assistant General Manager of the Engineering Division at Nawarat Patanakarn Public Co. Ltd., a large heavy civil construction firm. The sole Western employee in the company, Cocoziello coordinated joint venture agreements with North American and European partners to tender for multi-million dollar civil construction contracts, drafted project proposals and estimated project construction costs. He also facilitated decision-making between Thai and expatriate staff, performed general site supervision and helped procure specialized construction equipment from abroad. In 1992 Cocoziello accepted the Rensselaer Medal Award Scholarship to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) where he studied engineering physics. As a Research Assistant at RPI’s Center for Industrial Innovation, he actively participated in several doctoral research projects in the field of microelectronics. There he developed and characterized electro-optic and low dielectric constant thin films using low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) techniques, designed and fabricated laboratory high vacuum system components, procured research materials and equipment, wrote and reviewed research proposals, prepared and presented summary reports, and co-authored two scientific journal articles. Cocoziello was also selected to participate in the National Science Foundation’s prestigious Research Experience for Undergraduates Summer Physics Program.

Cocoziello began his professional career in 1990 as an entry-level Civil Engineer at James R. McCumsey, PE, LS, PP and Hayden-Wegman Consulting Engineers, PC. At both of these firms, he performed design computations, computer-aided mapping/plotting, drafting, and field survey measurements of roads and sites. He also researched and prepared data for engineering reports, assisted in report writing, participated in the civil design of elements of roadways, sites, and drainage systems, helped to identify and delineate endangered wetland areas, engaged in construction inspection, and assisted in the preparation of engineering estimates for construction.

Cocoziello holds a Bachelor of Science degree magna cum laude in Civil Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and an Associate of Science degree in Engineering Science from the County College of Morris (CCM), New Jersey. He is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, the Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering National Honor Society, the Association of Corporate Growth, the Licensing Executives Society, and the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators.
